About CNS
Comm-Unity Networking Systems (CNS) started in 1996 as a web development company, but quickly turned into a FileMaker Pro Plug-in development company due to our strong interest in FileMaker. At the time, plug-ins were just showing up on the market, and we needed an easy email plug-in to use for a client we were consulting. We were amazed at the time that there just were not any simple solutions available. So we set out to build a good simple and easy to use send mail plug-in, now known as SMTPit.
It was actually a perfect fit. Jake, being a programmer could build the plug-ins. Jesse, a creative end user could help mold the product so that normal every day users could understand them. With both the left and right brain being used, we seemed to succeed quite well at our goal: to make simple easy to use plug-ins that allow FileMaker developers to build powerful solutions for their clients.

I started building web pages when I was in college in the early 1990's. I enjoyed it enough to start a business building web sites for others in an obviously over crowded market in 1996 when I graduated, with a BA in Christian Ministry from Abilene Christian University. Some of the sites that I started building needed database backends and I ended up using FileMaker, though at the time it was a stretch, being that it was FileMaker 3.x. Then, of course, when FileMaker 4.x came out we were able to start building plug-ins in which we evolved into the business that you see today.
Over the years I have greatly enjoyed building website and database oriented websites for folks, but I have thoroughly enjoyed plug-in business because it seems to reach many more people. Though we do have our fair share of bug reports and tech support, we do get a lot of people telling us how our products have improved their own businesses.
Personal
As far as my personal life, I got married in May 1993 to Julie Ann Wright, and in August of 2002 we had our first child, Noah Malachi Traynham (picture left with Daddy). Julie is just now (2003) starting her practice after years and years of pre-med, medical school, and residency. "Religion"
Throughout the history of our business and website we have had some interesting responses to us stating that we are "a Christian owned and operated business". We've had people commend us for being so brave as to display our "religion" so publicly. On the other hand we have been scolded for "pushing religion". We've even had people call us up just to tell us that they will not do business with us as long as we state that we are Christians.
The truth is, I am a Christian, and to check that at the door would make me a hypocrite. I am who I am. Do I want you to become a Christian too? Of course I do, who among us would not want others to be like ourselves. Am I going to use my business to try to convert you? Of course not, that would obviously be inappropriate.
Conclusion
To conclude, I want to thank everyone who has purchased a plug-in from us. I hope you have as much fun using the plug-ins as we have had making them. As always, feel free to email or call us about the plug-ins as needed. For contact information, please see our contact page. |

In the midst of going to the University of North Texas (Computer Science degree), my brother and I had a crazy (and somewhat naive) idea to start a web designing company. We got a few jobs here and there, but it never really took off until we got into the FileMaker Plug-in market. Jesse was working on a website for our Mother and needed a way to send email out of FileMaker. We looked at all the email plug-ins on the market at the time and really didn't like what we saw. So, being the (stereotypically confident) computer programmer I was, I said, "I can do that!" Of course, at the time, I was still working for another company (since ours wasn't making money yet), so I didn't really have that much time to work at it. Nevertheless, we got a Windows version of SMTPit out and you can maybe guess what our biggest response was: "This is great! ...but where's the Mac version?". Jesse has always used Macs, but I grew up in a Windows world (sad, but true). I didn't have the first clue of how to even begin programming on a Mac, but none the less, I got a copy of CodeWarrior and started hacking away. It wasn't easy, but now I've got a firm grasp on programming for both platforms. Now if I can just release all the plug-ins and programs we have ideas for.... Personal
I played the bachelor game for far too long, which was great from the business's standpoint (I never went home), but not so great when it comes to not being bored constantly. In the summer of 2002, I started attending a new church that some of my friends went to, and I met the woman of my dreams. So, naturally, I married Heather LeAnn Hopkins as soon as I could (October 1, 2002). She's great ... I have no idea how I lived without her. We love to travel, play with our pets, and help out with the youth at church. We don't have any children yet, but plan on it. Right now (Fall 2003) Heather is about to start school again to become an early childhood through 4th grade school teacher. Conclusion
All in all, my job is great. My Wife is wonderful. God is good to me. I love my life!

Coming into this business in May of 2002, I had never even heard of FileMaker. I remember using FileMaker for the first time and thinking, "Huh? What is a record and what is it doing for me?". I have come a long way since then, and enjoy creating solutions and have actually made a few useful ones with FileMaker. A big challenge of working here has been having to deal with a new platform to me, the Mac. It's a scary thing, I've always used PC's and I know them inside and out, I guess I'll just have to cope and learn what a finder and keychain is. Slowly I'm learning C++, and hopefully one day I will learn enough to actually be able to help with some of the programming around here. But until then, there is a good chance when you call or email you will be talking to me. :) Personal
Currently I'm attending college and am working on a degree in network administration. I should graduate in the spring of 2004 and will be very happy to be out of school! I don't really want to work in the "real world" when I graduate, so hopefully I can stay here. I'm a little younger than Jesse or Jake (which they do not hesitate to rag on me about) so I do not have any wifey's to talk about. But I do have a love in my life.....my truck. I can blame my brother for introducing me to lowered trucks, but it's okay, it is a great hobby that I enjoy very much. When I'm not working on my truck, you can usually find me playing on a computer. I've built all of the PC's that I use (Yes, I use only PC's, except at work, and would not have it any other way), and always enjoy fixing and working on computers whether they are mine or not. Conclusion
Overall, I can't think of any other place I would rather work, because not only do I get to play on computers all day, but it is fun! Lastly, buy our plug-ins! :)
